Welcome back to the new academic year. Maple Class (Year 6 Class) will be sharing in Collective Worship this Friday at 8.55am.

Class 2

A big welcome from me, Miss Shaw, class teacher and from Mrs Trueman and Mrs Mousette our TA’s.  Class 2 consists of Years 1 and 2 and we have a lovely big and light classroom to learn in. We have also had a door put in so that we can access the playground for more outdoor learning. We are developing our outside space this year so that it can be used for independent, free-flow activities. There are lots of resources in our classroom to help with our learning and we use these frequently as I believe that practical and active learning is key to a purposeful classroom. Our displays reflect the learning we have done in class and they also showcase some examples of work completed by the children.

Our learning follows the National Curriculum requirements for Year 1 and 2 and we learn phonics, guided reading, English and maths in the morning then we learn other foundation subjects in the afternoon. To keep fit and healthy we have P.E twice a week and we are lucky enough to have one of those sessions with Mrs Clay, our PE teacher. To reflect the Christian nature of the school we also learn religious education once a week and PSHE once a week. These are great opportunities, alongside all lessons, to tie our school values into the children’s learning. In class 2 we also have regular homework. This involves daily reading, spelling practise and Fun-key maths fact practise.

I enjoy trying to find school trips which enable the children to experience their learning in a new and exciting way. Recently we have visited, Harlow Carr, Abu Bakr Mosque, The World of James Herriot, The National Railway Museum and Skipton Castle. We are also lucky to have a PAT dog come in to hear us read. This is a lovely opportunity to encourage children to read for pleasure.

In class 2 we believe that learning is amazing and we are encouraged to try our best in everything we do. We need to work together as a team so that we learn more and support each other in a Christian way.
