Welcome back to the new academic year. Maple Class (Year 6 Class) will be sharing in Collective Worship this Friday at 8.55am.

Welcome to Class 1

Welcome to Class One! We are a class of Reception and Year One children. We use our indoor and outdoor areas to encourage the children to explore and learn through first-hand experiences and we are also keen to know what the children have been doing at home too. Lots of children learn best when they are moving, so we especially enjoy singing, dancing and PE. We record the children’s learning through photograph observations, linking them to the EYFS statements.

Our Teacher is Miss Somerville, and she is supported by Mrs Kildin on Mondays and Tuesdays, Mrs Whatley on Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays and Mrs Parsons every morning.

We focus on teaching the children Phonics and Maths alongside supporting children’s social and communication skills to enable them to become readers, writers and mathematicians as well as securing important life skills as they begin their life at school.

Our topics and activities respond to the children’s interests and special events, and we love having visitors in our classroom too! Do let us know if you know someone who would love to share something interesting with the children. We also go on trips too with the children enjoying a trip to Harlow Carr, church and a multiskills sports event last year.

  • Keep an eye on the Parent easel in the playground each morning for messages and information
  • Check the newsletter for key dates and requests for help
  • Please read regularly with your child using books from school and ones you have at home.
